- Chapter 21 - How can you tell that I am a follower of the Demon Lord?
“It is the duty of a captain to put his life on the line when his men are in danger, my brave sir.”
We are on the third floor of the church hospital. A man in burning cloth jumped into the middle of it.
He was dressed in a crimson battle suit and had the same integrate as me.
There was no way I could have mistaken him. It was that man, Major Wallace, the Sword Saint, who rushed into the room.
“Hey, Mister Braveheart, cancel the non-lethal setting.”
All of the anti-imperialists have lost themselves to the demon tribe.
It is no longer believed that there is any will left in them.
And they are not pyrotechnicians. That’s why it’s just natural, the Major’s words.
“Aah!!!!”
Not only the arms. Three monsters whose entire bodies have turned into a demon.
The aim is probably to move human beings.
…Cut off the right arm that swung down.
So, is this the power of Integrate, freed from the shackles of a non-lethal setting?
What tremendous power! A little chill runs down my spine.
“The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that the first time I saw a new player, I thought, I’m going to have a hard time against three people. Hero…”
The actuality that he cut down the guy who was aiming at the president of the hospital room in a few seconds.
“Major…. I have to admit, it helped, they weren’t the kind of guys I could have taken on alone.”
I didn’t think they were monsters that couldn’t be stopped by cutting their arms.
I guess they don’t feel pain. These guys will fight to the death.
I can breathe a little easier now that I’m back to back with the Major, but I wish I wasn’t.
“But it seems the sorcerer intends to make his companions disposable, doesn’t he?”
“Oh. You’re not talking about going back to the way it was. You’re literally out of the game.”
Perhaps this Wallace man would understand my anger.
This is the man who claimed to have saved the elven children in that village back then.
“I’ll take care of you, my brave friend. Fight as you wish.”
“Can you do it?”
“Uhm, yes, but I will not forget the habits of those I have fought once.”
Oh no, I’ll have to fight this man again…
Thinking this, I slashed at one of the men surrounding me.
We were surrounded on three sides, but I was able to break through.
“Hmmm, I guess cutting off the head will kill them. No need to cut it into little pieces.”
“Well, you really got it together, Major.”
He took advantage of the gap I had cut off his arm and hit him in the neck.
How could he have moved so precisely without hitting me with the blade?
So it is true what they say: once you have cut someone, you don’t forget their habits.
“I got it. So the same kind of demonization is happening outside.”
The Major’s words were probably in response to a thought communication.
“Have the anti-imperialists turned into monsters?”
“Probably, and not just the members of the group that took over the hospital.”
What a grotesque thing to do.
…. probably the same people who were in the main hall.
I thought I was the one who jumped into the death zone, but I never thought it would come to this.
“Dr. Chloe….”
Activate Accelerated Thinking and stop time in the real world.
If we don’t kill the monsters in front of us as soon as possible and head for the Great Hall, there will be no way to get them back. Even if the anti-imperialists we had tied up fell to the demons, we would not be able to do anything about it, and Marlo the magician, with whom the man had been communicating, was probably in the Great Hall.
Time cannot be wasted. That’s why, after stopping the accelerated thinking, we stop to shoot.
If we can destroy the legs, we can then slash or shoot them to death as we wish.
Major may kill them instantly.
“Gosh!”
A quick shot with a slight muzzle shift.
One of the two falls to the floor immediately.
“Stand back, brave man…”
One of them, perhaps not aiming fast enough, lunged straight at him.
The Major swung his Integrate in front of it, splitting the enemy’s body in two.
It didn’t take long to finish off the one who stopped.
“Major, I have an idea where the master magician is.”
“Huh? How?”
“The head of the guys who were here got information about me. They knew what I did when I fought in the Great Hall.”
I can see the Major’s expression tighten as he hears my words.
“…it is where the hostages are being held.”
“Aah, I came here thinking I’d be safer if I killed the magician first.”
“You’re trapped..”
I’m going to run as fast as I can…
The goal is the Great Hall. That’s where Marlo the magician is.
We’ve been successfully led into the enemy’s trap. The people who were taken hostage are in danger, and Dr. Chloe is in danger too!
“How many enemies were in the Great Hall, my brave friend?”
“Less than twenty. The number could be higher if some of them came back from their rounds.”
“It’s going to be a bit of work, don’t you think? And the sorcerer will come with us, right?”
And so we arrived at the destination. The anti-imperialists, who had turned into demons, were waiting for them.
They were obviously in formation and ready to attack us.
Now, how should we attack them?
“I see you’re back, Jonathan.”
I must have been peeking through a blind spot in the doorway, the entrance to the main hall, but they noticed me.
“And is there another one? Please come out.
I don’t have any bullets left in my gun.”
I invoke accelerated thinking.
As for why we were noticed, it must be magic.
I can only assume that they were set up to detect anything that approached them.
Neither I nor the Major had made any mistakes that would have been detected by sound alone.
To begin with, this is a large hall where hundreds of people are gathered. No one would be able to notice us by sound alone.
Then, next, the anti-imperialists who have corrupted themselves into demons. Why aren’t they running amok?
They are much more organized than those who were in the president’s hospital room.
They are in a formation to block our entry, and several are in positions to kill hostages at any time.
It wouldn’t be like that if they weren’t commanded by people who are used to fighting.
I am sure that Marlo the sorcerer is here, after all.
Only a sorcerer can detect and lead like this.
Then, what is that? What happened with Dr. Chloe having very cloudy eyes?
Even her hair has turned black, and what happened to her distinctive pink-gold color?
Who on earth is controlling her?
… There is no more material to consider if we stop time.
Must we be prepared to move forward in time and assess the situation?
“The enemy apparently seems to be a sorcerer of the old Demon Lord lineage.”
“Wait a minute. No, that woman….”
The major thinks that Dr. Chloe is the enemy.
But that’s impossible. I’m sure.
“Huh, you got it. Imperialist.”
How can you tell that I am a follower of the Demon Lord?”
