- Here’s the Mission. Your Mission Is to Burn the Elf Village and Eliminate the Terrorist Leader, Sylphina Bloommarin
- Chapter 19 - Hmph, it's useless, Kensei. I am far above you.
“It is the duty of a commander to put his life in danger for his men, my brave friend.”
I tried to look cool, but in fact, I thought I was going to die.
I was dressed in a suitable cloth and had Lady Sylphina cast a spell on me to force my way through.
It was reckless, very reckless.
The original mission was to pursue the hero and the witch Sylph, but how did it come to this? The beginning of this story goes back to a while ago.
“Commander, we found the target. They seem to be splitting up.”
It had been several days since we had pursued the witch and the hero who had jumped into the river, but were plagued by a lack of clues.
It seemed that the order to retreat to the headquarters was about to be issued under the pretext of an inquiry into the matter of rescuing the captured elven boys and girls. It was at that time that we received information that an elf named Sylphina had appeared in the trading city of Addingil.
We entered Addingil to confirm this information, and after a short while, we finally learned of their presence.
I finally caught wind of their presence.
We found them in the neighborhood of Waku Waku Burger.
(Team 1, chase the man. Team 2, chase the woman. Don’t touch them yet. Just follow them.)
First, gather information. I thought I would proceed slowly.
However, I was too naive to think that we would proceed “slowly” against the witch Sylph.
“Commander.”
(You seem to have some bad news.)
“We’ve lost the girl.”
The more bad news I had, the sooner I would tell him.
And I tried not to denounce it… But if it’s bad news …… and I’ve lost her,…
(Did you notice me? Or did I simply get lost in the crowd?)
“Perhaps I was taken for granted. It’s intuitive.”
-The situation was already bad, but as the commander, I made a mistake once again.
I should have had the first team that was tailing the brave man fall back at this moment.
“Commander… the witch is calling for help, heh…!!”
The location of their first team can be determined by the intercommunication of nanomachines in their bodies.
The location is in the shadows surrounded by tall buildings formed in this trading city.
It is a narrow and closed place that can destroy our advantage of having a large number of people.
“It’s a trap, Captain.”
“Alan,… what do you think? Will the witch kill my men?”
“I doubt it. I haven’t heard anything about cruelty, but someone who is plotting to assassinate the emperor.”
I checked with Alan, and he said yes.
The other party is a witch who is plotting to assassinate the emperor. It is not surprising if they kill my men.
The only reason I am letting them live now is that I am using them as a trap to lure us out.
“Commander, please use your best judgment. It would be foolish to fight in a place designated by the enemy.”
“If it’s like that…, then it’s enough for me to jump in there.
Alan, I’m counting on you to take command when the time comes.”
The deputy seemed taken aback by my words.
“Well, yes, if it’s the commander, I understand. I’ll make sure you have a way out, even if it kills me.”
“No,” he said, “you will escape alone, if necessary. You must inform the motherland of the danger.”
I left everything in the hands of my deputy and headed for the place designated by the witch.
This is a closed area created by this cluster of tall buildings.
Walking through these places, I forget that I am in the land of the humans.
“It’s just like the Empire. Even without a war, the empire swallows up everything.”
The last time I met her, we did not have a conversation.
So this is our first conversation, the first words she has spoken to me.
From an elf named Sylphina Bloomsmarin, a witch of many legends.
“Is this a dissatisfaction? Is it offensive to you?”
“No, I have no disapproval per se. It is only natural for advanced technology to propagate itself.”
In the shadows created by the building, light blue eyes gleam.
The lives of one team are at risk.
“Then why do you want the emperor’s life?”
While continuing the conversation, I confirm the situation.
Four members of the first group are lying around the witch Sylph.
It is this small space. The non-lethal setting cannot be canceled as long as there is a risk of accidental shooting.
“Because he will remain at the top of the technology propagation.
His will propagates like a parasite on the propagation of technology.”
What in the world is she talking about?
What does this witch know about the emperor?
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have talked to you.
But if there are nanomachines in that body, don’t forget them.”
“…. what the hell?”
I think I understand why I was told to “be careful talking to witches” before I was assigned to the mission. The words this woman speaks have a unique weight to them. I would normally ignore them, but I find myself wondering about their true meaning.
“All nanomachines, without exception, belong to the emperor. So is the human body that houses them.”
“Phew, I have offered myself to His Majesty along with the sword.”
“I see. Then come and get me. You want to get your men back, don’t you?”
He pulls out his integrity.
“Huh?!”
Our stroke didn’t reach them at all. There was no way I could have misjudged.
It was not a position that any sane person would have been able to avoid.
And what kind of a fool he was, standing on my arm that I had swung out…. at him!
“Hmph, it’s no use. Kensei. I am far above you.”
“Sylphina!”
“Yes, you’ve got to be serious. I want to test if the name Kensei is true.”
It was like fighting water.
The distance was always close. There were many times when I should have fought with a sword.
The witch dared to do so. She wanted to see how good we were.
“Oops, watch out!”
For a moment, just a moment, I thought I could reach her.
If I swung through at this rate, the blade would reach the witch. I was sure about it.
But just before I did, she refracted the sunlight and blinded me.
“…Mirror magic!”
“Hmmm, you’re brilliant, as expected, to make me use magic. After all, you are a sword saint.
But, you see, there’s a difference between you and me. I’m sure you can see the difference.”
I don’t need her to tell me that…
My confidence in being called a sword saint is about to be shattered to pieces.
But even so, I picked up one victory.
“Squad 2! Recover Team 1!”
