EX rank supporting role’s replay in a prestigious school - Chapter 858 - Boundary (11)
Two.
The words sent goosebumps all over Maeng Hyodon’s body.
He couldn’t detect them, which means both of them are of high levels.
It would’ve been normal to panic, but his fighting experience and Ham Geunhyung’s presence stabilized Maeng Hyodon.
‘Professor Ham is here with me. It’ll be okay.’
Maeng Hyodon braced for battle and tried to understand who they were up against.
They were most likely not enemies since he heard one talk, and the voice seemed to be of royal lineage.
‘It’s coming from there!’
Maeng Hyodon flew away to dodge without another thought.
When Tak Geosan found out that Maeng Hyodon was suffering from symptoms of addiction due to his overuse of recovery items, the teacher started relentlessly attacking his student.
He was worried that his student would get hurt in real combat if he didn’t know how to dodge.
Tak Geosan usually attacks with moderate strength, but he occasionally hits hard.
He would adjust the power in his blows just before he made contact, but every attack made Maeng Hyodon feel like dying.
‘This won’t end in a slap if I can’t avoid this!’
The fruits of Maeng Hyodon’s training shone through.
He reacted quickly to the sudden movement and dodged.
Shwiik!
As Maeng Hyodon dodged, Ham Geunhyung shot an arrow.
Five or six arrows flew to the spot where Maeng Hyodon had just been standing.
Teuduk. Tuk.
But Ham Geunhyung’s arrows fell limply to the ground, with strands of hair wrapped around it.
The owner of the hair revealed themself.
Step, step.
The being looked more like a human being than an enemy, but their physique differed from that of an ordinary human.
He was abnormally large compared to the average adult male, and other parts of his body were shaped differently.
It was Dowul of the Four Perils.
Maeng Hyodon, unaware of his true identity, regarded him as a ‘long-haired royal lineage.’
“How dare you avoid me?”
Dowul spoke in a thick voice as he glared at Maeng Hyodon.
Energy waves lingered in his hair as if displeased with the situation.
Instead of being frightened, Maeng Hyodon was confused.
‘It’s natural to dodge when attacked. What is he talking about?’
Ham Geunhyung felt a sense of relief when he saw Maeng Hyodon’s expression in front of the strong royal lineage.
He saw that his student hadn’t lost his fighting spirit, but the professor still warned him.
“You shouldn’t fight, Maeng Hyodon.”
It was Ham Geunhyung’s objective analysis of the royal lineage and Maeng Hyodon’s abilities.
Maeng Hyodon was convinced.
He knew that it would be a difficult opponent even if he used all his might to defend himself.
He knew he would surely lose.
“Are you the Legendary Archer of humanity? How about you try shooting without aiming?”
“…”
Ham Geunhyung didn’t respond to the provocation.
Although Dowul was right in front of him, Ham Geunhyung couldn’t attack easily.
There were two opponents, and if he started the encounter and showed an opening, one of the two opponents would come after Ham Geunhyung or Maeng Hyodon.
‘One of them is still hiding. They’ll attack me or the professor if they find an opening.’
Maeng Hyodon felt anxious.
It seemed as if someone invisible would soon attack him.
He had to suppress the other one so that Ham Geunhyung could fight properly.
‘Where is the other one! I have to find him, with or without my light skill…!’
Maeng Hyodon had used his light skill twice already, but he can’t use it now.
Fighter’s Gravity increases Maeng Hyodon’s stats and enables him to bind an opponent.
But he needs to designate one opponent to tie up.
He can’t do that if his opponent is invisible.
That means Maeng Hyodon has to find the other opponent.
“Oh, you don’t plan on using it? Then I’ll just have to attack you.”
Seemingly unwilling to prolong the standoff, Dowul launched an attack.
Dowul’s hair grew long, strands moving towards both Ham Geunhyung and Maeng Hyodon.
It moved as if it were a living creature and started to attack Ham Geunhyung.
Shwik!
Unwavering, Ham Geunhyung shot an arrow and split the hair with great precision.
As the shining arrow pierced through his hair, the energy waves that enveloped it were blocked and the strands lost power.
Dowul’s eyes opened slightly wider as his thin hair was struck.
“Huh, that bastard really is in trouble. This is a problem that we had no choice but to step in.”
Dowul shortly exclaimed as he seemed to acknowledge Ham Geunhyung’s skills.
Dowul looked at the severed hair, the corners of his lips rising.
It seemed like regular hair, but it had the power of a thousand-year-old sword.
Cutting it off was no ordinary feat.
“You cut off my hair while protecting the other kid? This is quite something, even if it’s borrowed power from a superior being.”
“…”
Ham Geunhyung didn’t respond to the compliment.
He just kept his fierce face expressionless as he cautiously looked around.
Dowul didn’t push any further.
Instead, he increased his power.
Gwoooooo…!
Dowul’s hair spread out widely, this time with more power.
‘No, it’s going to be bad if that long-haired royal lineage exerts more force!’
Maeng Hyodon sensed danger and tried to do something, but there was little he could do.
Ham Geunhyung stood between him and Dowul, making it impossible to use Fighter’s Gravity because of the awkward position.
He tried to think of a way to overcome the crisis, but he was at a loss.
The feeling of helplessness reminded Maeng Hyodon of the fight club.
‘Is there nothing more I can do with my light skill…?’
Maeng Hyodon understood light skills as something like a miracle that players can perform.
When Maeng Hyodon turned 17, he hoped that this miracle would help him overcome his situation, but the reality was different.
Fighter’s Gravity helped him get stronger, but it did nothing to help him escape the fight club or change his alcoholic and gambling father.
After entering Eungwang High, his thoughts on his light skill, which he initially disliked, had changed.
He felt better about it, especially now that he was able to use it twice to help others.
But it couldn’t help now.
Kwaaaa!
Dozens of strands of hair fluttered and swept toward Ham Geunhyung as if they had their own will.
The strands acted like an arrow, provoking Ham Geunhyung.
From the hair’s movement, Maeng Hyodon realized that this royal lineage was strong enough to engage in battle with ease.
His body moved forward unconsciously.
“Maeng Hyodon, stay behind me!”
Ham Geunhyung was a teacher who cared for his students, but he was not known for being overprotective.
He would let his students fight when he knew it was time, and he would watch with pride as his students demonstrated their abilities.
The reason why he’s telling Maeng Hyodon to stay back is because he simply didn’t have the skills.
Maeng Hyodon stopped dead in his tracks when he realized it too.
He decided to stand back just as his professor said, but he couldn’t just sit and do nothing.
‘I have to find the other one.’
Every battle that he fought so far flashed in Maeng Hyodon’s mind.
Among the numerous scenes, his master’s fight came on top.
‘The Taoist saw something that couldn’t be seen and counterattacked. How did he do it?’
Maeng Hyodon recalled how Tak Geosan’s eyes shone as brightly as Joo Soohyuk’s Clairvoyance and Ham Geunhyung’s.
It didn’t seem like Tak Geosan’s eyes were special, either innate or borrowed from a superior being.
Then how on earth did Tak Geosan’s eyes shine like that?
‘It’s the enlightenment he gained while fighting.’
The battlefield through the eyes of those who have fought and studied fighting methods all their lives is different from what an ordinary person can see.
Tak Geosan honed his skills for a long time and he gained new eyes from the enlightenment he achieved through fighting.
A skill derived from Maeng Hyodon’s Fight skill was activated.
When Maeng Hyodon’s Fighter’s Eyes opened, his mind became clear.
Maeng Hyodon saw what he couldn’t see, and he chose an area where he thought his opponent would hide.
‘If I had to launch a surprise attack, I would have the long-haired royal lineage in there while I hide here.’
His Fighter’s Eyes reached the opponent.
He could feel that this opponent was having fun deciding which one of them he should attack first.
Now that he’s seen his opponent, Maeng Hyodon can use Fighter’s Gravity to keep him in check.
‘But it’s not enough to just hold him back with my light skill. We won’t win by just buying some time. Well, we can’t win anyway, so I’ll just buy us more time.’
Although his eyesight and fighting skills improved significantly, the difference in their overall ability was still wide.
There were some advantages for Maeng Hyodon.
That royal lineage is completely off guard, unaware that Maeng Hyodon had already seen him.
Maeng Hyodon tried to find a way to capitalize on that.
‘Just like when the Taoist took me by surprise!’
He pictured Tak Geosan as if he were right in front of him and thought about how he could move in the same way.
Then, Maeng Hyodon’s second derived skill awakened.

Thanks for the chapter!
From the way it’s describing picturing Tak Geosan in front fighting, I wonder if the derived skill will summon something like a fighting shadow/ echo to fight with Maeng Hyodon? I guess we’ll see in the next few chapters

Thanks for the update! I am so happy whenever I see the next button on here. Sometimes I’ll be on an earlier chapter and the see the next button and get excited until I realize that I’m not on the newest chapter tab. Anyways, let’s go!!! Hyodon growth time! I’m so happy for him. The younger players get protected a lot, (as they should be) but that means we might not exactly get to see their cool moments as much as like Jiho or Euishin. So, I’m super duper excited to see Hyodon get such a moment! Spontaneous growth is fun. I’m so proud of him already.

Cool chapter as always, and looking forward to more! (ㆁωㆁ)
