EX rank supporting role’s replay in a prestigious school - Chapter 840 - Side (5)
Feeling the unusual power, the small enemies hurriedly stopped rushing towards Maeng Hyodon and dissolved themselves.
However, the two wing-like swords had already penetrated deep into the enemy lines.
Fwiish!
The Two Light Wings drew a flash in the air, and the small enemies died as soon as the swords hit them.
With just one swing, a third of the enemies were eliminated.
In the afterimage of the enemies’ demise, the swordsman looked back at Maeng Hyodon.
It was Joo Soohyuk, the Backlit Wings.
‘Why is Joo Soohyuk here? Does this have something to do with what he asked about the VP last time?’
Joy and confusion were on Maeng Hyodon’s mind.
He thought for a moment that Jo Euishin and Joo Soohyuk planned this, but the thought didn’t seem right.
‘No, there’s no way the VP would send Joo Soohyuk to something as dangerous as this!’
If Jo Euishin were to dispatch a rescue team to a dangerous place like this, he would either do it himself or ask help from a trustworthy adult.
Just like when he brought along their homeroom teacher, Ham Geunhyung, when he first rescued Maeng Hyodon.
“How did you get here…!”
Tak Geosan said, surprised as he recognized Joo Soohyuk.
He activated his light skill as soon as he saw Maeng Hyodon being mobbed.
That would’ve blew up everything around him, but he was able to immediately stop when he saw Joo Soohyuk, making him lose his balance and stumble a little.
Before the floor master could use the opportunity to launch a decay skill, Joo Soohyuk’s secretary, Kim Chul, intervened.
Paaang!
The skill failed when the floor master was kicked by the energy wave-filled shoes of Kim Chul.
Before it could attack again, Kim Chul retreated with Tak Geosan.
Only after he distanced himself from the floor master did Kim Chul speak.
“It’s been a while, Professor Tak.”
“Chul! Did you come with Soohyuk?”
“Yes, I’m here to guard the young master.”
With the addition of two powerful players, the enemies visibly shook in their places.
Those who were aggressively coming at Maeng Hyodon became timid, and their attitude made Tak Geosan and Maeng Hyodon suspicious.
Why didn’t the owner of the garden notice Joo Soohyuk and Kim Chul’s ambush?
Even if the garden’s owner couldn’t fully know the situation inside, they could’ve at least known that two additional people went in.
But the enemies were unable to respond at all.
Although he had many questions, Maeng Hyodon decided to ask the one he was most curious about first.
“…Hey, how did you come in here?”
“I was worried about something so I followed you. And I wanted to meet your teacher one more time.”
Joo Soohyuk spoke as if he had followed Maeng Hyodon to a school cafeteria, not infiltrated a whole dangerous garden.
He must’ve thought deeply and planned things well, but he didn’t seem to have any intention of explaining it now.
“There’s something strange about this garden. There’s something different about the air. I think that’s why Chul hyung and I weren’t detected.”
As Joo Soohyuk said, Maeng Hyodon also felt some discomfort.
This place was somehow different from the otherworlds he knew.
He had a strange feeling that the energy waves from the garden were intermittently seething.
Maeng Hyodon, who had never been to any other gardens, concluded that gardens were just that way.
But now that Joo Soohyuk pointed it out, he does find things very strange.
“Yeah, there’s something about the air… Have you attacked gardens before?”
“Not exactly attacked one. I participated in the debris cleanup of a garden before. The royal lineage who owned the garden invited me to their new one. That’s when I observed one.”
Joo Soohyuk briefly summarized quite a big incident.
Last summer, Joo Soohyuk helped clean up a garden at the border of Eungwang District to prevent spatial distortion and otherworlds spawning.
At that time, Joo Soohyuk received the favor of a certain royal lineage and was given the chance to tour their garden.
“I think someone else is forcing the garden to move, not its real owner. Maybe that’s why even though it’s a high-level garden, it’s not working to its full potential. The enemies I just attacked failed to respond to the ambush just now.”
Joo Soohyuk clearly saw through the essence of this garden.
In truth, its real owner was Unsa.
The garden is maintained thanks to Unsa’s power, but it is Docheol who is currently manipulating it.
That’s how Docheol was able to save lots of energy waves, but it meant that his control over the garden was low.
Joo Soohyuk guessed correctly solely from the flow of energy waves and the enemies’ movements.
Maeng Hyodon also felt like Joo Soohyuk was right.
“I’ll take charge of this, sir.”
“Soohyuk you little kid, am I that old that you’re treating me like a grandpa?!”
“Your light skill is very powerful, Professor Tak Geosan, but it’s not very efficient. There are at least two royal lineages here. Please conserve your light skill.”
With Joo Soohyuk’s persuasion, Tak Geosan eventually yielded.
Just as he said, there must be two royal lineages here — the real owner and the one who’s currently controlling it.
There’s a high chance that they’d have to fight those two, so saving their power and energy would be wise.
However, something made Maeng Hyodon anxious.
“Hey, physical attacks don’t work well on those enemies.”
Joo Soohyuk’s main weapon is his dual sword.
Although it was different from the martial arts practiced by Maeng Hyodon and Tak Geosan, it was still a physical attack by category.
Considering Joo Soohyuk’s skills, it would be possible to fight those enemies if he used a thick layer of energy waves on his swords.
‘That’s gonna be hard even if Joo Soohyuk has a lot of energy waves. We don’t know how much longer we have to survive.’
Players usually use energy waves when using attack skills with weapons.
However, unless in special situations, it’s not common to fight with increased energy waves applied to an entire weapon.
It might be effective, but it’s greatly inefficient.
It’s like having an electric stun gun but using the natural electricity from your body to attack instead of simply pulling the trigger.
“Yeah, that’s right. But those incorporeal enemies have a clear weakness.”
Joo Soohyuk slowly raised his dual swords.
Maeng Hyodon wondered if he should stop him, but he decided to see what would happen first.
‘The Taoist and the bodyguard aren’t stopping him. He must be right.’
Maeng Hyodon had a feeling that Joo Soohyuk would be okay.
Fwaaaat!
A blinding light covered their vision.
It looked like wings sprouted from Joo Soohyuk’s straight back as a bright light radiated.
Maeng Hyodon thought for a moment that they were light from the swords, but…
‘Real wings…? It’s not an item or a simple skill. It’s his light skill!’
As Joo Soohyuk raised his sword high in line with the angle of his wings, light began to flow from the dual swords as well.
It didn’t seem to be simply from energy waves but the effect of a separate skill.
“Since they want to act like fog, let’s disperse them like the wind.”
As soon as Joo Soohyuk said so, the power in his wings and dual swords turned into wind mana.
It started as a gentle breeze and soon turned into a gust.
It was an incredible ability.
Natural abilities were rare, and people who had more than one were even rarer.
But Joo Soohyuk…
He can wield as many attributes as he wants.
In front of Joo Soohyuk’s light skill Flawless Wings, the enemy’s weaknesses are irrelevant.
Shwaaa!
Joo Soohyuk’s body shot forward along with the wind.
As the name of his light skill suggests, it was a flawless flap of wings.
Maeng Hyodon was momentarily distracted, but he immediately moved to fight alongside his friend.
Squeak!
Sensing the magical wind power, the enemies quickly tried to spread out.
However, tied into the battlefield set by Maeng Hyodon, they were unable to escape.
Maeng Hyodon predicted the trajectory of Joo Soohyuk’s swords and ran towards them.
He clenched his fist tight as he approached the enemies who were outside the swords’ range.
Kwang! Bang!
In a second, Maeng Hyodon loaded his fist with energy waves and mercilessly struck the enemies.
Although his fist wasn’t strong enough to eliminate them, it pushed the enemies toward the tip of Joo Soohyuk’s sword.
Maeng Hyodon looked back after throwing a punch and he found Joo Soohyuk, who had already destroyed numerous enemies, running towards him.
Joo Soohyuk was sure that Maeng Hyodon knew how to help him.
Maeng Hyodon smiled for the first time since he entered the garden.
Swaaa…!
Immediately after the wind swept the place, the designated battlefield disappeared.
Since all the enemies held by the Fighter’s Gravity were destroyed, the light skill was automatically lifted.
As a large among of enemies disappeared instantly, the floor master who was dealing with Tak Geosan and Kim Chul stood tall.
It seemed to be doubting its own senses.
“Let’s get the floor master. Hyodon-ah! Chul hyung!”
“Got it!”
“Understood, sir.”
Joo Soohyuk raised the tip of one sword and pointed to a dark corner.
The two that he called knew that they had to block the escape route.
Maeng Hyodon immediately ran towards the area.
‘I don’t have to use my light skill to tie the floor master. Joo Soohyuk will finish him off if he’s even a second slower!’
Joo Soohyuk gathered his strength as he crossed his dual swords.
The floor master tried to retreat, but Maeng Hyodon already covered the back while Tak Geosan blocked the front.
Judging that escape was impossible, the floor master attempted his final struggle.
Energy waves swelled from the floor master’s core as if it were about to self-destruct.
But Joo Soohyuk was faster.
Kwaaaaa!
Before the floor master could detonate, the wings of wind already penetrated its core.
A soft, light wind blew from the wings that pierced the enemy, and soon it slowly melted and disappeared in the wind.
Hiss…
When the floor master lost its form, Joo Soohyuk’s derived skill Two Swords One Body, was activated and the Two Light Wings returned to his hands.
As Joo Soohyuk caught his breath, the traces of battle completely disappeared.
‘Even though we were advantaged, this is…’
Maeng Hyodon realized how much Joo Soohyuk grew.
In terms of close combat, Joo Soohyuk and Maeng Hyodon were similar enough to be considered rivals.
However, looking at the battle just now, the difference between the two became stark.
Joo Soohyuk has grown.
He felt it when he watched his duel with Jin Jungmok, but seeing him fight these enemies made him feel the extent of Joo Soohyuk’s growth.
‘And all I could think about was sacrificing my left arm!’
If that had happened, Tak Geosan would’ve tried to rescue Maeng Hyodon with his light skill, and the subsequent fight would’ve been more difficult.
“You… how… why…”
Why did you come here? How did you become so strong?
Maeng Hyodon had a lot of questions, but he was unable to speak as he was washed by various emotions.
As the silence continued, Joo Soohyuk spoke.
“My friend would get hurt if I didn’t.”
Joo Soohyuk accurately answered the question that Maeng Hyodon couldn’t ask out loud.
Joo Soohyuk became stronger and came here for the sake of his friend.
And Maeng Hyodon was convinced.
Other than himself, the friend that Joo Soohyuk referred to also included Jo Euishin.
Old_Cat
thanks for the chapter.
nyahahaha… I was right, it was our munchkin OG protagonist.
However, it seems that it was not Euishin’s arrangement?
But his cautioning Hyodon the day before… what’s the deeper meaning if there was any…
Alley_Cat
Thanks for the update! I’m glad I checked before going to bed. Even now, we keep learning about everyone. And, anything the playable characters can do, Euishin can also utilize. I should make a list or something…. There’s still a lot of light skills we don’t know. Very very early on, Hani mentioned hers hurt her body, and we know now it probably has something to do with being the blue tiger… I really do need to organize all the information we do and don’t have.

Thanks for the chapter, Ms. Translator! (≧▽≦)/
Aha! I knew it, Mc wouldn’t ask Joo Soohyuk for this kind of task yet.
But just like before, I think he knew this would happen. (o・ω・o)
Nice chapter as always! and looking forward to more! (✧ω✧)
