EX rank supporting role’s replay in a prestigious school - Chapter 811
Hopeless frustration was all over Sung Gukeon’s face.
He knew that his grandfather, the former head of the association, left a clue in Eungwang High.
Unfortunately, since he was too busy with several things, Sung Gukeon had no time to find it.
And so he hoped that his cousin would.
Sung Gukeon has been waiting for Sung Siwan to become a third-year high school student and find the clue along with a friend or a trusted junior.
But now, Sung Siwan was too busy protecting Jiikhoe and the other students.
‘It’s hard to get that clue through Siwan. There’s not much I can do to help either.’
Sung Gukeon and Jeon Muyeong had access to various information and interfered in events.
As time went by, they became convinced that what the former head of the association left behind was true.
A royal lineage is coming after Korea, and that invasion will begin in Eungwang High.
It may already have begun, but the two didn’t have much ability to stop it.
“Let’s find another way to get the clues. If we can’t find it, let’s stop them in any way we could.”
It felt like everything would gradually crumble to the ground when they talked about the invasion, but Sung Gukeon’s confident voice had some encouragement.
Whether the sky was falling or the ground was crumbling, Sung Gukeon would stand upright.
He had that unique ability to reassure people.
Students followed him well before, and that’s how the Jiikhoe was established.
But Jeon Muyeong was still uneasy.
Because if there is an invader, Sung Gukeon would be targeted for sure.
It was unlikely for them to leave this inspirational and powerful leader alone.
‘Being nervous won’t help. I have to protect him from behind.’
Jeon Muyeong looked at Sung Gukeon’s broad back with a strong sense of camaraderie.
* * *
The case of Eungwang High’s youth retreat had been resolved by the end of the summer and the Korean peninsula was stabilizing again.
However, political and player circles began to seeth once more.
This was because of several issues, the most problematic of which was the nationalization of player satellites.
The recent big accidents have been linked to the Player SAT-K’s failure to detect otherworlds.
So the government insisted on taking responsibility and nationalizing the satellites, saying that the Player’s Association failed to manage them properly.
Sung Gukeon considered this claim ridiculous.
‘How can non-experts in the government solve the problems that even the association’s best players couldn’t solve?’
The government has attracted people to this end, most of whom are not players or simply have blood ties with government officials.
Moreover, the vast majority of them were controversial as they were caught up in rumors of having preferential treatment in their fields.
‘Either they’ll sell satellite information to royal lineage, or they’ll privatize it again later on under the pretext of government bankruptcy… Or someone is trying to neutralize Korea’s player satellites.’
The clash between the Ministry of Otherworld Affairs and the Players’ Association caused a serious stir, and the public, the majority of whom were not players, gradually leaned towards the former.
Even those who thought it was ridiculous at first changed their minds because the government and the media said it was okay.
On top of that, the publicity was clear that the association hadn’t been able to properly deal with each major incident.
The Players’ Association was rotting, and it was festering to its roots because it failed to cut out the pests in time.
“It’s hard to expect the association’s response. We should investigate matters at the Ministry of Otherworld Affairs first.”
“Something changed from the first hearing. We should find out what caused that. Maybe someone got threatened or bribed.”
“For now, I’ll check the bank accounts and real estate holdings of those connected with the Ministry of Otherworld Affairs.”
The investigation didn’t go very smoothly.
Someone tried to tarnish Sung Gukeon personally and politically.
Fabricated matters emerged as the unknown enemies cleverly manipulated events.
Fortunately, Sung Gukeon managed to defend himself and refute those claims promptly.
A short period of hasty attacks failed to destroy Sung Gukeon’s reputation and approval rating.
[The Peerless Gukeon appears in articles a lot these days. Don’t poke the bear~ Is it just me?]
[All the BS articles are from the same journalist and the same press lol]
[Maybe the reporter is a fan of Peerless Gukeon. Good deeds and stories from the congressman come up because of their articles.]
[Seriously, it’s probably because of the nationalization of satellites. Why are they targeting the player-turned-lawmaker?]
[I hate the association, but I like Peerless Gukeon. Sung Gukeon, fighting!]
The voters’ hearts weren’t shaken and instead more and more people supported Sung Gukeon.
The public atmosphere around him was so good that it could be described as a headwind.
However, there were some things that he couldn’t avoid.
‘The attacks slowed down our investigation on the Ministry of Otherworld Affairs. We couldn’t dig into the issue of nationalization.’
This was all on top of Sung Gukeon’s already very busy schedule.
He had a lot of matters to attend as the sole player-turned-lawmaker.
This was the case with the legal seminars tackling the Player Special Act held regularly.
The National Assembly is a legislative body, so Sung Gukeon didn’t neglect to study law, especially the latest overseas precedents regarding the Player Special Act.
As many famous players attend these seminars, some consider them to be a social venue.
“Congressman Sung Gukeon, how about a drink?”
He was handed a cup filled with sour-scented grape juice.
Simple drinks are provided in case the seminar gets longer, but the usual was just bottled water.
The drink today though was from a famous overseas brand of juice.
It was common to hear stories of powerful people who demanded expensive drinks to be served in places where only water was provided.
‘He’s on the ruling party’s nomination roster for proportional representation.
Reporters and numerous eyes were on this event.
If he refused, articles would be written describing him as ‘engaging in a war of nerves,’ or ‘in a nervous state.’
Even if he refused nicely, people would still find fault in it.
He could just not drink it anyway, so he decided to accept the glass first.
“Aigoo!”
Drop! Break!
Then, a man in an old suit rolled over just in time when Sung Gukeon took the glass, making him drop it on the table and break.
Seeing the purple-stained tablecloth, the staff emerged to replace it.
“Aigoo, I’m sorry, Congressman Sung Gukeon!”
“Look where you’re going!”
The ruling party congressman shouted angrily while Sung Gukeon, the victim, stood still.
Sung Gukeon quietly admired the broken glass.
‘He has a good hand.’
The man who broke the glass shot energy waves as he pretended to fall.
He precisely aimed at the glass, preventing its contents from being spilled on Sung Gukeon, and created a situation that was difficult to detect from the outside.
“I’m alright.”
“Aigoo, a stain like this… I’ll try to erase it first and ask for a new one later.”
The man took out his handkerchief and covered up the sleeves of Sung Gukeon’s clothes.
Interested, Sung Gukeon decided to deal with this man instead of the congressman.
He looked at Jeon Muyeong and nodded.
This man seemed to be affiliated with newspaper companies.
Sung Gukeon left behind the other congressman who was still venting his anger.
“I heard it was Congressman Sung Gukeon who designated today’s drink.”
As they moved away from the venue where no people were around, the crooked figure spoke in a remarkably calm tone.
He adjusted the cuffs of his sleeves and it seemed like he turned into a new person.
“I have never given such an instruction.”
“Yes, but that’s what the staff heard. They were excited that Congressman Sung Gukeon asked for something. Looking at the noise around you though, I think there’s something else.”
It was obvious that someone was trying to play a trick on him.
They could find out if they investigate, but it’s unlikely that people would easily believe the fake news surrounding him, so it would be a waste of time.
“Everyone is just drinking water as usual. I’m sure they wanted a photo of you holding that glass.”
“Thank you. I owe you.”
“Not at all! It’s fair to trust and protect the person I voted for. All of our staff are fans, Peerless Gukeon-nim. Ah, here is my business card.”
A law firm.
Representative Lawyer Byun Jaeik.
The name on the card made Sung Gukeon realize why Jeon Muyeong easily nodded.
The law firm he belonged to was acting in accordance with the “Moon Shining on the Border.”
Byeon Jaeik, who would’ve been successful as a professional player, chose to set up a law firm himself.
His main objective was to legally protect the weak players, but since not many cases are taken up, he still regularly targets otherworlds.
“Haha! I’ve never seen a lawyer so well-spoken.”
“I’ve never seen a lawmaker like yourself too.”
The conversation between the two quickly became lively because of the respect they had for each other.
They happened to be around the same age, making it easy to talk to each other.
They naturally exchanged device codes and promised to talk again when the opportunity came.
‘I almost got involved in something troublesome, but I met a good man instead.’
Meanwhile, Jeon Muyeong made a report after investigating what happened behind the drink incident.
After the reports, Jeon Muyeong apologized.
“I couldn’t get any physical evidence. I’m sorry.”
“Is the lawmaker behind it?”
“Yes.”
“There’s no reason for him to take his time.”
Incidents continued to plague Sung Gukeon.
He couldn’t stay put if it was something that involved a player and an otherworld, especially when it involved Eungwang High.
Much time was lost but without much progress.
“They’re good juniors. They’re not connected with royal lineage either.”
Sung Gukeon took notice of two students at Eungwang High.
Joo Soohyuk and Ahn Dain.
The damage to Eungwang High decreased a little thanks to those two.
In addition, they were members of the student association and the student council.
‘I think I can reach them through Siwan. They can investigate the secret association.’
Eungwang High was set to have a big event soon, so Sung Gukeon planned to contact those two when he stopped by.
The event was Eungwang High’s Christmas Charity Event.

Alley_Cat
Thanks for the update! So, that’s Euishin’s playable character? The lawyer? I didn’t think we would get to see him fully in Replay, first. Anyways, ugh. I hate those silly, terrible games people in power play! All those nonsensical rules… and how it can be a constant fight against their sneaky acts. Social norms really… especially powerful people ones. Well, enough about that, I can’t think of much to say today either…
yester
Ah! The cliffhanger!
