- Chapter 796 - A new class 1-0 (7)
The Black Screen took its time taking away the honor and will of the players and people of royal lineage.
But even in this chaos, there were players who didn’t waver.
One of them was Sung Gukeon.
In PMH, Sung Gukeon was trusted both as a player and a lawmaker.
Sung Gukeon’s staunch and sincere actions maintained a firm approval rating from the public, and even if the Black Screen engaged in political maneuvering, he still succeeded.
Sung Gukeon has been a headache for the Black Screen as he changed public opinion to a more positive light toward players.
‘So they tried to get rid of Sung Gukeon before the amendment of the Player Special Act.’
In PMH, someone expanded their connections through the Hwanmong Auction and succeeded in becoming a member of the National Assembly, winning the nomination of the ruling party they were in.
After Sung Gukeon passed away, that lawmaker began to move.
They proposed an amendment to the Player Special Act because the politician who had been standing in their way had finally died.
The amendments included provisions on rouge players.
During that time, police and military intervention was only legal when human and property damage occurred or was expected.
Unless accidents get bigger, rouge players are usually dealt with according to the policies of the Players’ Association.
However, according to the revised law, even if they do no damage, the police and military can make a summary judgment as soon as they feel like a player has gone rogue.
(T/N: Summary judgment is when a judge issues a ruling based on evidence and statements without going to trial.)
‘The law prohibits that even for murders, and such rulings aren’t easily issued even during wartime…’
I was sure that such a ridiculous law wouldn’t pass, but surprisingly, even in the modern world, that thing seems to be possible still.
Public opinion moves quickly if a big accident occurs, and this is done when people in power want to divert the public’s attention from the legislative process.
Once they do, they spread disinformation on the actual law and make an effort to ostracize and paint the opposition as bad guys.
As such, a law was promulgated in violation of the safety of the people.
The funding power of those who lobbied for the amendments and the ability of the lawmaker from the Hwanmong Auction made it possible.
Now that I think about it, the money that they got from auctioning players was the same thing they used to kill several players too.
Just thinking about it made my blood boil.
‘Because of that law, as soon as Yeom Junyeol destabilized, he became a target and was killed.’
There wasn’t much public response to the bill, but the Players’ Association and the professional player teams showed considerable repulsion.
As public opinion went in favor of the players, the lawmaker who proposed the deadly amendments decided to join hands with the Black Screen.
The Black Screen said that it was necessary to ‘punish a powerful player who would cause serious damage’ to create an image that the law would protect people.
The Black Screen chose Yeom Junyeol as its sacrifice.
It was easy enough to kill Cheon Dongha and Ma Jinseung to make Yeom Junyeol lose his stability and explode.
‘It was the first explosion with the Red Lion and the Dragon Clan that killed Yeom Junyeol. There was even a video.’
The video of Yeom Junyeol losing control, unable to suppress his power, and Hongryong’s flames were edited exaggeratedly, making its way to mainstream media.
They made the story clear — this is what would happen if we don’t kill him.
Yeom Junyeol was killed almost as soon as he ran away as if he was a rogue murderer.
Yeom Junyeol’s fans had to engage in war with haters even while they were grieving.
Knowing that the main culprit who killed his son was the lawmaker who waited for the media and troops as if he knew that Yeom Junyeol would run away, Yeom Bangyeol decided to take revenge.
‘After Yeom Bangyeol’s failed revenge, a lot of the professional player teams left Korea.’
Players who had hoped that something would change from Yeom Bangyeol’s effort eventually gave up.
A professional player team can get murdered like that, what makes them any different?
The Player’s Association tried hard to respond to the situation, but the association was incomparably corrupt and incompetent compared to this world.
‘There were playable characters who believed in the power of law and resisted until the end, but…’
One of my playable characters, a lawyer, continuously protested that such a ridiculous law had been legislated, even saying that he did everything he could to make a constitutional appeal.
However, no one was interested in a player belonging to a weak law firm and had to depend on attacking otherworlds for financial survival.
Still, that character dug through the case and lobbied for what was right until he was eliminated.
This series of events would begin after Sung Gukeon’s demise.
‘If Sung Gukeon were alive, he wouldn’t let the lobbying in the National Assembly sit idle. He would block the number of seats that the Black Screen needed for the amendment of the Player Special Code.’
Kim Shinrok’s face turned sour when I gave the tigers an overview of what happened in PMH for this year.
His past students, even those who thought he was dead, had great affection for him.
It’s been a while since Sung Gukeon was his student, but it was very like Kim Shinrok to still regard him as such.
“I understand that student Sung Gukeon is in danger. Didn’t you say that there’s a situation in the game where he is assassinated?”
“To a certain extent. But to be sure and to stop that from happening, I’ll need to use Replay.”
“Is that so…”
It would be difficult to prevent this one completely with solely the information I got from PMH.
On top of that, in the assassination incident, Sung Gukeon and Jeon Muyeong acted separately so I needed detailed information from both of them.
I didn’t want to show them how they died, but it’s better to dream it than to see it happen in reality.
“It’s not easy to assassinate a lawmaker. The Peerless Gukeon of all people. They’ll have to prepare something vicious. And we’ll need time to prepare for it.”
“Jo Euishin, when will that event happen? Is there any chance that that person would change it?”
The timing of the scenario is clear.
Because they did it on a special day for Sung Gukeon.
“No. They’ll probably do it the same as they did in PMH. Every year, Sung Gukeon sunbaenim visits the same place which makes it easy to target him.”
“Explain in detail.”
It had something to do with Kim Shinrok.
Perhaps he already noticed when I spoke of Sung Gukeon’s routine.
“Every year on Teacher’s Day, Sung Gukeon sunbaenim visits Eungwang High. He came to school evening last year too.”
On Teacher’s Day, Sung Gukeon stopped by Eungwang High and was assassinated on his way home.
Last year, on Teacher’s Day, Sung Siwan and Sung Gukeon had a conversation in front of me.
— Gukeon hyung! Did you come to see your homeroom teacher? Did you get hurt again? Do you not use recovery item cards?
— It’s been a while, Siwan-ah. I broke my arm yesterday while attacking an otherworld, so he’d be worried if he saw this. I’ll just save it for next year.
Sung Gukeon casually moved on, but anyone who understands his background and situation would think differently.
Sung Gukeon was in Class Zero throughout his whole high school life, and his homeroom teacher was Kim Shinrok’s previous identity.
Kim Shinrok was often away when he was in his third year, so it’s said that Ham Geunhyung often took over as the assistant homeroom teacher.
Still, the only one that Sung Gukeon regards as his homeroom teacher was Kim Shinrok.
He always stopped by Eungwang High to pay regard to his dead teacher.
‘It was a unilateral promise. He said he’d come to school every year on Teacher’s Day.’
Amendments would be deliberated in May, so they would probably do it before that.
During that timeframe, the only sure schedule of Sung Gukeon is on Teacher’s Day.
“Since I spent some time with Sung Gukeon sunbaenim, I think I can tell him my intentions to join hands.”
“Hm, yeah he’s around often.”
Sung Gukeon appears during the festival, apparently changing his prejudice against people of royal lineage by playing chess with Yong Jegun.
The time has come for Hwang Jiho to meet Sung Gukeon as the representative of the Tiger Clan.
Sung Gukeon and Hwang Jiho might be ready, but it seems that there’s a tiger who isn’t yet.
“What do you think, son?”
“Ah, I…”
Kim Shinrok stuttered.
Sung Gukeon already knows his identity and is waiting for him to reveal himself, but I guess he’s still undecided.
I don’t think he ever imagined revealing his identity, but he’s grown enough to consider it now.
“We still have time, so please think about it.”
“…Understood.”
I wish we could hurry, but I decided to wait.
Sung Gukeon’s opinion on royal lineage has changed a lot, but his attitude will change depending on whether Kim Shinrok is present or not.
* * *
Morning, next day.
Eungwang High had a commotion because of the accident caused by Class 1-0.
The bulletin board was flooded with articles and reaction posts summarizing yesterday’s events.
There was something that caught my attention in the comments.
The title of it was as follows;
[Jiikhoe Chairman Response Rate (Former vs Current)]
The content was mostly comparing the two.
One of which was how Sung Siwan immediately responded when a student took a video of the incident that happened in our dormitory building on the first day of school.
The other included how Gye Bastard responded after yesterday’s events.
‘This bastard is slow.’
Sung Siwan and Gye Bastard would’ve had the same kind of air board, but their speeds were incomparable.
Gye Bastard was three minutes slower.
It would’ve been easier this year since it was a literal explosion so this performance is ridiculous.
Because of Sung Siwan’s popularity, a lot of students expressed how they missed him in the comments.
Of course, I miss the old chairman whenever I see the new one too.
“Hello, Euishin hyung.”
I ran to Eunho by chance when I arrived at the Jiikhoe cafeteria.
In the previous world, Cheon Sungheon and I didn’t have matching class schedules but we often met in the cafeteria.
I missed those times.
It happened quite a while ago, but now we’re looking much younger than then, making it a little awkward.
Thanks to the fact that we met, had breakfast together, and bought each other drinks, I got to play the role of a not-so-important senior.
Eunho, who picked up a can of hot coffee, said,
“I heard about what happened at the mansion yesterday. I’d like to hear more details later.”
Eunho doesn’t remember many details from PMH either so he immediately said yes.
After walking together until we headed to different areas, I headed to Class 2-0’s classroom.
I saw several holograms floated and phrases written on the board, so I asked Kim Yuri.
“We need to pick class officers today.”
I began to think about it too.

thanks for the chapter.
eeetoo, nothing to comment today… hahaha

Thanks for the chapter! Yikes. I didn’t realize Junyeols death was planned to be an example. That’s horrible. That lawmaker got dealt with already, yeah? I know he hasn’t done anything yet, but I’m angry and it has nowhere to go. Well, there’s the black screen. There’s always good reason to fuck them up and they played a part. But still… For being the reason why there isn’t like, an active apocalypse, players get treated kinda shitty. And honestly, compared to other super-powered worlds, There’s a lot less well known supervillain players. Maybe I’m not phrasing it right, but while there are evil players, it feels like nowhere near as many as like my hero academia or something.

Thanks for the chapter, Ms. Translator! (,,>ヮ<,,)!
